Plumberparts.co.uk. “Honest reviews and advice”.
Hold tight. And welcome to today’s plumberparts.co.uk video. It’s been brought to my attention by cat George and also in more aggressive and angry ways my wife that the toilet system downstairs isn’t filling up. So basically she’s putting a load in it, pressing the button and getting the flush and nothing’s coming out.
Now on this particular toilet we’ve got a side entry fill valve. This particular video is gonna work whether you’ve a ball valve or anything that goes into the side, okay. It’s really, really easy. Now the first bit of advice I’m going to give you, because this is a really simple video, is when you’re buying your new side entry fill valve or any kind of fill valve for a toilet, try to get one with a brass shank on it, okay? Because this makes things loads, loads easier. As you can see, the fill valve we got here is a small side entry one. With a lovely little brass shank on. It’s also got a slight float reducer in there to even the flow out. It has a nice silent fill sleeve on there. It also has the standard upturn cup arrangement for it as well.
So anyway, I hope you enjoy the video. And I hope that somehow it persuades you to subscribe. Enjoy, hold tight! So if we look in here, we’ve got our knackered toilet because we’re actually redoing this house at the moment. And we’ve got our fill valve here. Now if you look down there, you should see That there’s not really any water in there. That it needs a little tap like that to get it going. So this needs whip’n out.
So the first thing do is turn the water off. So you’re gonna need to know where to do that. As soon as you got the water turned off we’re gonna slacken off this nut here and then slack off this little nut here. Right, so we got a nice little water softener here so the water is switched off just on there. Next thing you do, is we’re gonna pop back to the toilet just through here and we’re gonna go flush this loo. Oh my God, I love this bit. Right, as you can see… Again this hasn’t filled up, right. Okay now we’ve got no water going into here at all. Even when I whack it, nothing is happening. Right, so all we got to do now, got the water off, here is just get our lovely set of adjustables. I’ll try not to get in the way of the camera. I’m sure you won’t have a camera when you come to do this. And slack it off this feed pipe first. As you can see the previous plumbing really loved using pipe clips. ♫ When somebody ♫ Does a big, fat poo ♫ In your big fat loo, ♫ Oh, oh, no. ♫ So you got a little bit of water coming out. Nothing to worry about everybody. If you’re really worried about it, pop a little towel under there, something like that. So now that’s off there. Inside here, you’ll often find you’ve got like either a little rubber washer or a little fibre washer or even sometimes people put PTFE in here. But personally, I’m a big fan of the rubber washer because they sort of tighten up and nip up really nicely. So next we got this, this little one here, the nut that just holds this on. These are really easy to undo as you can see. So there we go. We now got that off. And that’s our old one, completely out. Wahoo. So we’ve got our nice new one here. You have two nuts, okay? What I try to do is put one nut on first, obviously. A lot of the times you’ve have like a little rubber washer but they haven’t supplied one with this one here. So I’m just gonna wang it on, like so. And then you can put this through your hole here. Nice and easy, look at that. This is going so well. I’ll go nuts if I drop this nut.
Right so we’ve got our other nut on there. Just gonna do that up now. Well, it is plastic so you don’t wanna go nuts when tightening this sort of thing up. Make sure that your valve is nice and horizontal. Right, and then now we’ve got that up, basically it’s a matter of just getting this connexion back on here. Making sure, as well, I’m mean this is important, you’ve got to get this bit right. So we need to make sure that we get a really good seal on here. Often I recommend you change the seals on these when you do this job, just in case. Probably worth to do it on here though because this one’s got a rubber one in here already from not long ago. Ain’t that just beautiful? And now we’ve got on this little upturned cup here. What this does is traps air in here so when it’s filling up and the water level get and goes bop and turns this valve off. It doesn’t actually make that noise though.
